(Question) My PC cannot
connect to the AresGate Web GUI. How can I fix the problem?
Answer:Your PC must obtain an IP address of 192.168.1.X (X is
in the range 2-254) from the AresGate before your browser can access
AresGate's Web GUI. First of all, you have to make sure the TCP/IP setting
of the network adapter you use to connect the PC to AresGate is set
to 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and follow the steps
below to review and update your PC's IP address:
For Windows 95/98/ ME:
- Click Start, click Run, type winipcfg in the
Open box and then click OK. Your current TCP/IP settings are
displayed as below.

- Select the correct network adapter that you use to connect the PC
to the AresGate on the dropdown box (you may have more than one Ethernet
Adapter listed). To help you make a right choice, below is a table
of the adapter name and its corresponding hardware/software devices
for your reference.
| Adapter name |
Hardware/ software device |
| PPP |
Analog modem |
| WLAN PC Card |
ARESCOM WL-110 wireless PCMCIA card |
| USB Wireless Adapter |
ARESCOM WL-210 wireless USB device |
| NTS PPPoE Adapter |
NTS PPPoE dial-up client program |
- If the IP address is not 192.168.1.X (X is in the range of 2 to
254), then clicking the Release button and then the Renew
button releases the IP address to the AresGate's DHCP server and requests
a new IP address. If the TCP/IP setting of the Adapter is not 'Obtain
an IP address automatically', then the Release and Renew
buttons set at grayed out.
- If Windows prompts an error message during the Renew processing,
please reboot your AresGate and repeat step 3 above.
- If you use an Ethernet cable to connect your PC to the AresGate
initially and you want to connect them wirelessly through a wireless
device later on, you need to click the Release All and Renew
All buttons if your Ethernet card and wireless device use the
IP address in the same subnet of 192.168.1.X (X is in the range 2-254),
which causes conflict to Windows Operating System. Sometimes disable
the hardware device which is not being used for the connection to
the AresGate in the Device Manager of System Properties
will also help you to resolve this conflict under this circumstance.
- If this does not resolve your issue, please reboot your AresGate
and also your computer, then repeat the steps above.

For Windows 2000:
- Click Start, click Run, type command in the
Open box and then click OK. Type ipconfig at
a command prompt and hit Enter to display the IP addresses
of all the Ethernet adapters installed on your PC. (Note: The example
below shows that Ethernet adapter local Area Connection 3 is
currently being used to connect the PC and the AresGate)
- Type ipconfig /release at a command prompt, hit Enter
and then type ipconfig /renew and hit Enter.
This will release the IP address to the AresGate's DHCP server and
will request a new IP address.
- If this does not resolve your issue, please reboot your AresGate
and also your computer. Repeat the steps stated above.

Internet. What should I do?
- Start your web browser and connect to the AresGate Web GUI. Click
the STATUS tab to get to the AresGate Status page.
- Verify your AresGate WAN IP address from the Status page above.
- In the Ethernet WAN section: make sure the IP Address, Gateway
IP Address and DNS IP Address are all existed. If not,
please reboot both your AresGate and DSL/Cable modem and check it
again. If your ISP provides that information to you, please make sure
you have all the information entered in the SETUP page correctly.

(Question) I am a DSL
modem user and I am using an ENTERNET 300 program running in my PC to
log-on the Internet. Do I still need to use it after I have installed
the AresGate?
Answer: No, you do not. ENTERNET 300 is a PPPOE client program
that runs PPP over Ethernet protocol to communicate with your ISP's
server. As long as you entered your user name and password in the PPPoE
page of the AresGate correctly, your AresGate's build-in PPPoE program
will replace your ENTERNET 300 to communicate with your ISP. After this,
all of the PCs behind the AresGate will be able to share files, peripherals
and Internet access.
