ARESCOM's Apex 1100 router can be used in two different modes: IP Master or Static IP . The appropriate mode for your network depends on the applications you use, the type of Internet access account you order from an ISP, and the setup you have on your network. If you have answers to these questions, you can select the most appropriate mode for your network. If you have any questions, you are welcome to call an ARESCOM customer support specialist.

WARNING: IP Master Mode is a feature available for version 2.x and higher of Apex Manager and Apex 1100 firmware. You will need to upgrade to version 2.x or higher to use IP Master, see Upgrading the Apex Manager and Apex 1100 firmware.

IP Master Mode

This mode allows you to subscribe a "single user dial-up account" account from an ISP and share that account with your entire Local Area Network (LAN). Every time you dial your ISP, your router will be assigned a new IP address. The Apex router translates the assigned IP address into a "virtual" C class of addresses. In this mode you can connect up to 254 devices on your LAN access to the Internet via a single user account and one ISDN line. Since there has been high demand for IP Master, it is the default remote access setting for the Apex 1100.

The default address of the virtual network is 192.168.1.0. If you would like to assign your own range of IP address instead of 192.168.1.x, you should upgrade the Apex Manager and Firmware to v3.0 or higher.

Applications such as Cu-SeeMe, NetMeeting, or multi-player gaming perform the best when the Apex 1100 is set to Static mode.

Static IP Mode

If you would like to use Static IP, you will need a "multiple user" account from an ISP. The ISP will assign you a block of IP addresses for your router and all the workstations on your LAN. You can host a web site and setup a server for e-mail and ftp. Typically, a multiple user account will cost more and will require you to configure every PC or device on your LAN.
