(Question) Is my Unit Compatible with the Windows XP Operating System?

Answer:

  • The ARESCOM software is 100% compatible with Windows XP The compatibility warning is caused by the ARESCOM USB driver.

(Question) I just upgraded my OS from Windows98/ME to Windows XP. Do I need any software/driver upgrade?

(Question) During the modem installation process, my Windows XP says it can't detect the NetDSL-MSN 800 unit. What could be the problem?

Answer:This may be an indication that there is a link problem between your NetDSL unit and the MSN server, as the MSN server cannot detect your DSL modem. Check the front panel of the NetDSL unit, and make sure you have a green and solid WAN Link LED. If not please call MSN technical support @ 1-877-327-6744 for assistance.

(Question) Can I share a DSL line with two or more computers using a simple hub?

Answer: At his time, the MSN internet service is designed to connect a single computer to the internet.

If you wish to connect two or more computers, you will need to purchase an Ethernet router. ARESCOM offers the AresGate Wireless Ethernet Router or the EZ Rider Pro, an Ethernet based router complete with an internal 56k modem, in the event that you lose your DSL connection.

(Question) Can I turn off the NAT feature?

Answer: The MSN units are pre-configured per stringent specifications from MSN.

The current configuration, since many of the components around the MSN Internet Service are based around NAT, requires NAT to be Enabled within the ARESCOM unit

(Question) I want to use IPSec to create a VPN

Answer: At this time, the ARESCOM unit for MSN does not support IPSec Arescom and MSN are working closely together to provide the best possible IPSec support options. Please watch the MSN FAQ for future announcements.
NOTE: In the meantime, we recommend using PPTP for your VPN needs

(Question) I would like to receive the NetDSL manager software to configure my NetDSL unit. Anywhere I can download the software ?

Answer: The MSN NetDSL units are are pre-configured per stringent specifications from MSN. Because the units are pre-configured for MSN, we do not offer a software manager to the open public.

(Question) I try to set up Netmeeting or MSN messenger but I can't hear the other party on the other end ?

Answer: The MSN NetDSL units are are pre-configured per stringent specifications from MSN with NAT enabled.
MSN and ARESCOM are currently working on a solution to allow bi-directional communication over the ARESCOM unit. Please watch the MSN FAQ for future announcements.

(Question) I want to play online games with my friends but I can't seem to get it to work, what can I do ?

Answer: Playing games across the MSN unit is not currently available due to the preconfiguration of the unit. MSN and ARESCOM are currently working on this issue. Please watch the MSN FAQ for future announcements.

(Question) Since I own my MSN DSL modem, can I use this modem with any other DSL service?

Answer: Each ISP/DSL line provider provided unit has been specially manuafactured with specific drivers and modes to work with that particular ISP/DSL line provider. Due to this, ARESCOM WILL NOT provide any form of support if you decide to switch to another service provider, and are attempting to use the same DSL unit.
