Step-by-Step Instructions for Completing a Basic Router Configuration Using Internet Access Mode (v4.1 or higher)

There are many ways to configure your router. However, for the purposes of this Technical Note, we are going to guide you through the process of configuring your router for the first time so that you can access the Internet through your ISP. This is one of the most basic configurations, and is best created using the Internet Access Mode. If you want to create a more complex configuration then please use the Standard Mode and refer the the Software User's Guide located on the Arescom CD-ROM for further information.

Router Mode Selection

When you run the Apex Manager program, and when you are configuring your router for the first time, the Select Router Mode pop-up window will appear. You can choose to run the Apex Manager in either Internet Access Mode or Standard Mode:

Internet Access Mode is a basic version of the Apex Manager that presents only those parameters necessary for accessing the Internet.

Standard Mode offers the full set of robust configuration parameters to handle those more complex network configurations.

Select the Internet Access Mode for now.

Note: After the initial router configuration, you can change the router mode at any time from the Tools feature. Just select the Reset Router/Mode tab, select the mode that you want to change to, and then click Change.

Detection

The first thing the Apex Manager program will do is search for one or more Arescom routers attached to the same network as your PC. You will see the Detection window telling you that it is searching. This procedure may take a few seconds. If the Apex Manager NetLinker Manager is unable to detect an Arescom router, or if it gives you an error message, consult the on-line help menu for more detailed instructions.
