How to Make a Debug Trace
If you have a null modem cable:
- Using the null modem cable, connect the console on the router with
your PC's serial port.
- Go to Start > Accessories > Hyperterminal. Double click "Hypertrm.exe"
- Connect using "direct to Com 2" (or other Com port you
specified).
- Properties of Com2: Bits per second 9600, Data bits 8, Parity None,
Stop bits 1, Flow control Xon/Xoff.
- Press "Enter" key on keyboard twice and you should be
able to see you've logged into the router.
- Click on Transfer > Capture Text... Default file name is "capture.txt".
Click "Start".
- In the Hyperterminal window, type "debug" then enter.
You'll see messages scrolling.
- Proceed with the task you are having problem with and wait for the
symptom happens. (For example, go to Apex Manager and connect from
the Status, and the connection cannot be made.)
- Once the symptom happens, let it stays there for about a minute.
This is the trace we want.
- Go back to Hyperterminal. Click on Transfer > Capture Text >
Stop.
- E-mail the captured file to support@arescom.com.
- If possible, do this several times and save them under different
names. Send those to support@arescom.com as well.
- Stop the debug by typing "undebug" in the Hyperterminal
window.
If you don't have a null modem cable, you can use Telnet to do the
debug trace:
- Make sure you have firmware version 3.21 or higher. You can check
the firmware version by going to Apex Manager > Tools > Upgrade
firmware. The version number is located at the bottom of the window.
If your router is running firmware prior to v3.21, please go to Arescom
Apex 1100 router download page and download the latest firmware
and upgrade it to your router.
- When the upgrade finishes, Telnet into the router by typing "Telnet
xx.xx.xx.xx" in MS-DOS window, where "xx.xx.xx.xx"
is router's IP address.
- Press Enter key on keyboard twice and you should be able to see
you've logged into the router.
- Click on Terminal > Start Logging... Default file name is "telnet.log".
- In the Telnet session, type "debug telnet" and press Enter.
- Then type "debug" and press Enter. You'll see messages
scrolling.
- Proceed with the task you are having problem with and wait for the
symptom happens. (For example, go to Apex Manager and connect from
the Status, and the connection cannot be made.)
- Once the symptom happens, let it stays there for about a minute.
This is the trace we want.
- Go back to Telnet window. Click on Terminal > Stop logging. E-mail
that file to support@arescom.com.
- If possible, do this several times and save them under different
file names then e-mail them to support@arescom.com.
- Stop the debug by typing "undebug" in your Telnet window.
